For the first time in a long time, Colorado is not in a drought! While that is wonderful news, it doesn’t mean you don’t need to water your lawn. In order to maintain a healthy lawn, you want to be sure you’re watering enough and allowing the soil to dry for the grass to get oxygen. Follow our summer lawn watering guide to ensure a healthy lawn!
How Long To Water Your Lawn
We wish we had a magic number for you, but the truth is, the length of time you should water your lawn depends. Because there are various ways to water your lawn and not all sprinkler systems are the same, we recommend that you figure out how long it takes your system to apply a 1/2 inch to an inch of water to your lawn. You can do this by placing shallow containers around your lawn to collect water during a watering session and then time how long it takes the water to fill the containers to your desired amount.
How Often To Water Your Lawn
It is not recommended to water your lawn every day. In order to have the healthiest grass, let your soil dry a bit between watering sessions to allow it to get oxygen to its roots. During the summer, we suggest watering your lawn two or three times per week. If you see signs that your lawn needs more water, go ahead and add a day to your schedule until you feel your grass has bounced back
When To Water Your Lawn
To ensure that your lawn is soaking up all the water possible from your sprinklers, you should water anywhere between 10 pm and 6 am. If these hours are not possible for you, try to focus your watering efforts to the morning hours, before the heat of the day. Watering at these hours will keep water from blowing away from your lawn and from evaporating quickly.
We hope that by following our summer lawn watering guide that you will have the greenest lawn on the block! If you’re struggling to keep your lawn alive or you need to patch up some areas, get in touch with us!
