Most people think that baseball field edging is purely cosmetic, but there are many more benefits to edging. Edging is an essential task for keeping the appearance of the field, making sure a dangerous infield lip does not develop, and improving playing conditions. What is Field Edging and Realignment?

Baseball field edging is when the line created between the turf and the dirt is measured and adequately edged, and realigned to create smooth, straight edges all around the field. Edging can be done with string and a gas-powered edger, a spade, a hand-pushed sod cutter, or a diamond blade. 

Over time the widths of the base paths, the radius on the pitcher’s mound, and home plate may have changed. This is when we recommend realignment procedures. This practice will bring all of your field dimensions back to their proper measurements.

Baseball field edging and realignment usually includes: 

• Using a proper diagram to layout specifications for the field size you are working with 
• Marking where the cutouts should be by using spray paint, chalk, or string 
• Using an edger or sod cutter to cut and edge turf 
• Raking or shoveling up the scraps and disposing of them
